Isabel was likely a twin, but the twin died before her birth. As the story goes, during the fifth or sixth month of pregnancy, Olive miscarried a child. The doctor came to their home in Hamilton for the delivery and took the fetus away with him. A few days later, Olive returned to the doctor or phoned him to say that she still felt movement. He examined her and found her to still be pregnant, and she later delivered Isabel. The deceased twin was never named.
